What does a Utah Registered Agent do?
A Utah Registered Agent’s primary job is to accept legal and state mail for your business and send these important documents to you as quickly as possible. This mail can include state notifications, summonses, or lawsuits. The state of Utah requires all Utah LLCs and corporations to designate a registered agent on state filings, so you might as well choose a reliable service to guarantee you won’t lose track of important, time-sensitive documents.
The state of Utah requires registered agents to:
- Maintain a physical address in Utah. Anyone acting as a registered agent in the Beehive State must have a physical Utah street address for their registered office where they will be available to accept service of process.
- Consent to serve. A Utah registered agent must give you their consent before you can appoint them as your registered agent and use their name and address on your state paperwork.
- Be physically available to accept service of process. Your Utah registered agent needs to be physically available to accept your business’s legal and state mail during normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm) at the address listed on your state paperwork.
Keep in mind that your registered agent’s name and address will be available to the public, so if you’re considering using a close friend or family member make sure they understand that their personal information will no longer be private.
Business Address Security with Utah Registered Agent™
We’re proud to own our own building right here, in West Jordan. But why is that important?
Because we own our building, you can rely on a stable business address for your LLC or corporation. We’re our own landlord, so we’ll never need to pack up and move to a different place, inconveniencing you and your business with a sudden address change. Our permanent address means that we not only accept registered mail, but we also provide other mail services, like Mail Forwarding and Virtual Office.

Utah Registered Agent FAQ
Do I have to have a registered agent in Utah?
If there’s one thing your business can’t get away with it’s failing to appoint a registered agent. Utah state law (UT Code 16-17-203) specifically requires all businesses to appoint a Utah registered agent. If you don’t have a registered agent, you risk losing your good standing with the state, as well as not receiving any potential lawsuits or important state notifications for your business.
Can I be my own registered agent in Utah?
It is possible to be your own registered agent in Utah, but only if you meet the state’s requirements. These include having a physical address and being available at that address during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm). Keep in mind that a registered agent’s information is on public record, so if you plan on working from home this means your home address will be made public.
How do I switch Utah registered agents?
You can switch your Utah registered agent by filing a Utah Registration Information Change form to the Utah Division of Corporations and Commercial Code. This form allows you to change registered agents and update information about your business. You can submit this filing online. The filing fee is $15.
Can I use your address for my business mail?
You sure can! When you sign up for our registration service, you automatically get 3 pieces of regular mail a year. If you’re going to need more than that, we offer several different mail forwarding packages and virtual office service. Signing up for any of these services means you’ll get a unique suite number for your business.
